Desktop HF/VHF Receiver

The Hallicrafters SX-71 receiver was manufactured by Hallicrafters from 1949 to 1954. They made the receiver with white and black dials. The white dials were for the earlier models (approximately 1949-1950) and the black dials came out in the later years of production. The SX-71 has a black satin steel cabinet with chrome trim, and a piano hinge top. This receiver is not light...it weighs 33 pounds and is 18 1/2 inches wide, 7 7/8 inches high and 12 inches deep. Its sale price ranged from $179.50 to $249.50.

The Hallicrafters SX-71 receiver is a double conversion superheterodyne general coverage communications receiver with 14 tubes. The frequency coverage is from 538 kc to 35,000 kc and 46 - 56 MHz. It not only picks up AM and CW signals, but it receives narrow band FM. It has good selectivity and sensitivity and has 3 watts of audio output. It sounds good with a Hallicrafters R-44B speaker (manufactured for the receiver with white dials) or R-46 speaker (manufactured for the receiver with black dials).

Original price 1950 in the US: USD 179.50
