I obtained this rig via a on-line swap for a old IC-746 non-pro I had. The fella wanted to do a straight swap. Seeing as how the 746 was my back up rig I said ok. This rig makes the 746 seem like a CB. Very good receiver and the lay out of all the functions on this rig are easy to use and understand. It is still my back up rig but from time to time I enjoy getting on CW with this radio. I would give it a 5 star rating over the years I have owned it.
Will probably never get rid of it, unless a good trade comes along, hi.

On a par with the big guns!

I have had my FT-920AF since 2006. I purchased it second-hand at a good price when it was 6 years old. To date I have had no problems whatsoever with it apart from a flickering display light. I can honestly say this is my first and my last rig unless it develops problems beyond repair. However, this has not happened in over 11 years.
The speech processor is a joy to use and always gives me superb audio reports. Indeed it is better than it's brother the FT-1000MP Field in this regard and is as good as the bigger FT-1000 Mark 5. The 920 incorporates DSP and has an excellent front end. The receiver is very sensitive and quiet. Many people also buy this rig because of it's superb performance on 6m. CW is faultless and is also a joy to use. In fact the 920 is on a par with big guns like the Icom Pro III, the FT-1000 Mark 5 and others but can be got second hand at a fraction of the cost. My advice would be if you see one for sale snap it up. You will not be disappointed. The Yaesu FT-920AF Transceiver is indeed a superb performer.

FT-920 EXCELLENT XCVR

Having been a ham sense 1955 I have owned many used and a few new radios all across the spectrum.

During a 14 month tour in Australia I lived close to a VK4 that owned this radio. When he showed it to me I was so impressed I knew I would own this radio very soon.

It is my first radio with digital receiving ability and the best I had ever listened to on CW. The receiver section is better than any radio I owned before. Those radios include Collins 51S-1, National HRO-500, and many other high end but older non digital rigs.
I also bought the mic and speaker console used and have about $1100.00 in the station setup. Like another reviewer I do not expect to replace this transceiver unless it fails beyond economical repair. The radio exceeds my ability. As time goes on this radio will increase in value.

I have been holding off writing this review as I wanted to use it on all bands and mode. Sorry I can find no negatives at all. It does everything it was designed to do. Never had one bad report. Easy to use, in face it is a pleasure to use. I have had many rigs since 1968 and this is the best so far. In fact I don't see myself changing the rig.
