Love this radio

KD8LDX

I've owned my TH-D72 for about 9 months. I absolutely love this radio. I get good audio reports for the FM, good packet reception on the digipeaters and igates, and contact the ISS digipeater with an aftermarket rubber duck antenna.

I have had the rotary encoder loosen within the radio body, which required me to partially disassemble the radio and tighten a brass fitting to prevent the encoder from wobbling within the radio body. That is the only mechanical issue I have had.

If there is a downside to the radio, it is the stock antenna. It appears to be very poorly matched for the radio, and I recommend getting an aftermarket (I use a Diamond) sma to bnc adapter to make swapping the antenna easier.

I enjoy the larger size of this HT; not only for the nice long battery life the larger battery can provide, but also for the spacing between the buttons. My large fingers wind up hitting more than one button on smaller HTs.

The menus are, for the most part, set-it-and-forget-it. MCP-4A program is free and very nice to program repeater frequencies, offsets, and tones.
