Very versitile shack in a box!

rreh917

Great shack in a box. I get excellent reports on audio quality in all voice modes, even on AM. Microphone depending. Yes, I again enjoy AM QSO's on 50.400MHz, 29.000MHz, 7295KHz, and even 3885KHz. Best sound SSB rig that I have. I never thought that SSB could sound so natural. This rig was opened up to work 60M, but be aware that the built-in antenna tuner will not work there. Not a problem if you have an external tuner. built-in tuner works every where else on HF and 6M. As a bonus, the VHF / UHF sub-bands RX AM aircraft band, the 222MHz FM band and even the 900MHz band. Great NB on this rig that really is effective. That Beat Cancel button (Part of its DSP.), is great for eliminating HET's on people tuning up on your QSO's. RX audio quality can really be appreciated with good headphones like the AKG K240. A good stereo speaker works well with this rig too, like Radio Shack Nova 15's. Yes, RX sensitivity is not the greatest, but that can be improved upon. All mode 2M and 432 are nice to have again. Having the "X" model now gives me the 1.2GHz band. This rig is a keeper with me.

Good radio for the money

kd4qhg

This radio was designed in the early 2000's around 2001. It has been discontinued. The radio did go through some bad times and has had its multiple problems. The one main problem I had with this rig was the bad intermittent on both VFO's when the mic was keyed up. I called Kenwood and they said they were very aware of this particular problem. They advised me since my radio was out of warranty and that they were 3 months behind to send it to Roy Conners (K3TEN) Electronics....What a big mistake that was. You can look on my Bio and see the story about him and his son Mark Conners.....So I contacted Kenwood back and asked if I could speak to Leo who is the technician, and Leo was pretty well pissed off that their Customer Service told me to send it somewhere else. Leo said they had no authority to do so and that he is the one who determines if he is behind or not. But as of today of writing this (19-April-2019) I still have not got my radio back and law suits have been started....But now back to the radio itself....The radio when it was working it did very well and did when the book and manufacture said it does. Menu and readout was very self explanatory and so was the all the instructions. The Sky-Command worked real good....If it wasn't for the factory cheap soldering on the pre-amp board and the IC-202 having bad soldering joints the radio was good. ...Hopefully anyone else who owns one of these has had better luck then me.
