Tough, inexpensive and enough

Yaesu VX-5R, Handheld VHF/UHF Transceiver

New for about $265, I thought the $165 used was a good 1st radio. It is. Heard that it's tough as a tank and I immediately dropped it 5 feet onto the concrete..... hardly a scratch on the metal case and works perfectly. I'm getting great reports from inside the house on the supplied rubber duck and hit a 25 mile repeater with the lowest power setting. I'm going to sit with this one just fine and dandy until the perfect mobile comes along. For what it is and costs, I think it's great.
