I purchased the Ten-Tec 2591 HT on 3/10/1986 from Alaska Electronics Supply, Inc in Anchorage, Alaska. The TT 2591 is supplied with a TT 2991 NiCad 8.4 vdc 450 mAH BP & 14 Hr wall-wart charger, Rubber Duct antenna, Ten-Tec Owner's Manual & Full Page color brochure. Purchase Price $319.
In addition to TT supplied accessories I purchased the following TT accessories directly from Ten-Tec along the way:
TT 2700 Speaker / Mic for TT 2591 HT
TT 2992 5 hour Desk Charger for TT 2991 BP
TT 2993 12 VDC Adapter Pack with cigarette lighter plug
TT 2990 9 VDC (6 AA) Battery Pack - Preserves memory when storing HT
This HT is still in service at my station with no issues - 29 years and counting.
Over the years I have used all of the listed accessories as needed and all have functioned as advertised and still do. Current configuration is for nostalgia: Heathkit HP-1175 , TT 2993, TT 2591 HT with TT 2700 Speaker / Mic, Mirage HT 35 watt 2m amp, Heathkit HM 2141 VHF SWR / PWR Meter, Diamond X50A antenna. Received audio is excellent, audio on the other end is very good per comments from those I QSO with.
PRO's : Reliable, Excellent Audio, Many Accessories, Extended Freq Cov.
CON's : Xmit PWR (Low 300 MW - High 2.5 W),10 Memories, Excessive Battery Drain.
Regrets: I did not purchase the TT 2201 Sub-Audible Tone Encoder
* or the TT 2425 30 watt Power Amplifier when they were available.
Technology has rendered this Gem obsolete, but for repeater use if one has installed the TT 2201 Sub-Audible Tone Encoder there are no limits to normal chit chat. Many repeaters in my area do not use tone access in this day of Great Technology i.e.Mt. Mitchell 145.190 minus 600 no tone.- Six to Seven state access, at over 6,600 ft.
