Had a DX-60 back when I was first licensed in the late 1960's and let it go when I was transferred out. Bought a restoration rig in the mid 1990's and after getting it working up to spec, added a homebrew DDS-VFO to make DXCC with it using only a simple wire antenna.
Parts are easy to work with, tubes are easy to find, and there are a myriad of modifications available. Most important of which is to take the high voltage off the function switch and have it switched via a relay.
An easy and inexpensive way to get back to basic radio.
