I got this rig used to replace a Alinco DXSR8 as a backup yo mt YAESU FTDX 1200. The Icom 746 PRO is by far the best of the three. Hot rec. and great TX. If you see one used at a good price, jump on it.

Outstanding radio i con 746 pro . with power supply p.s 125 and hand mike . Used price range $ 575.00 to $ 600.00 with a bench test dated within 60 / - days of purchase . Works great with a 4btv , 5 or 6 ground plane ground mounted .
Amazing compact transceiver with lots of features. Can't go wrong with this one.
I have owned this rig for 10 years now and it is always the one that everyone wants to work at our annual Field Day event! I have the a seven digit serial number rig so no early issue problems, from 80 - 2 meters with my R8 and end feed antenna system I work all over the world and keep up with my local club events as well. I also have three other rigs but the 746pro is and always has been my work horse. Sorry ICOM has drop it from the line but I hope the new pups will carry on the tradition as well!!! W2LGA
I have owned my ic7400 ( that's the UK version of the 746 pro ) just over 3 years now, I work all modes and this little beauty handles them all with great aplombe ! The DSP 32 bit filtering is wonderful and with the added 2mtrs and 6 mtrs all modes, makes this radio in my opinion the best shack in a box on the market. Not to mention the general coverage RX. Make sure you go for one with a 7 digit serial number and you shouldn't experience any of the original snags the early models had. Buy one with confidence and like me...you won't be selling it on, mine is much loved and a keeper !
I have owned this rig since 2001 and have had none of the backlight or final transistor amp issues that thr rig is famous for. I have made many, many contacts using only a Cushcraft R8 vertical and the internal tuner. The rig has always been in my shack except for being used in 4 field day events and it will be used in 2011 as well. I do both phone and cw with great success. DX contacts are plentiful and busting through pile ups also work well when I use my 811. I will admit I am going to purchase a Flex 3000 and move the 746 pro to a back up role only because it has fulfilled it's duty and I want to try SDR.
