I purchased the IC-92AD in hopes that I would be able to make use of the D-STAR stuff. Unfortunately I live in an area that has very little in the way of D-STAR repeater access. This may change in the future as the local ARES and RACES groups are looking at them, but so far, nothing.
But what really sold me on this was the great user interface. The menu is solid. The press/hold dual purpose keys are great. All the common features that I used were so simple I never even had to read the manual. The more complex stuff was easy to learn.
It feels very durable and solid in my hand. Weatherproof is a good thing in the NW where it rains a lot.
The mic/GPS connector is proprietary and non-standard. That stinks.
Great radio overall. A little pricey though. I think that is on account of the whole D-STAR thing.
