I have had many radios from every amateur manufacturer I can think of. The FT 1000D is the best on receive I have ever owned and barefoot is the best transmitter (200 Watts).
Some of the old tube rigs put out as much or more but were hard to tune. It is also 1 of the easiest to operate & is great for working DX. Among the HF radios I have used are several models of each of the following. Collins, National, Drake, Icom, Kenwood, Swan, Yaesu, & Heathkit. I am sure I must have missed 1 or 2
I bought this when it was new. It is tough and functional. Heavy, because it was designed for the Israeli military. Not gonna replace it in spite of all the fancy rigs available now.
