The R.L. Drake Company produced the R7A as a refinement of their popular Drake R7. Complete coverage is provided from 10 kHz to 30 MHz. Modes include SSB, CW, RTTY, SSTV and AM. Eight additional 500 kHz segments between 0 and 30 MHz may be programmed into the optional Aux 7 board. The R7A features an S-Meter, RF preamp, IF Notch, 4 position AGC (including an AGC off position), RIT and Pass Band Tuning. Frequency tuning is accomplished via sixty 500 kHz bands selected by a rotary band knob and Up/Down button selection. Three selectivity bandwidths are provided: 9, 2.3 and 0.5 kHz. The R7A exhibits especially strong sensitivity on the lower HF frequencies making it a favorite among Tropical band DXers.
A commercial/maritime version was also manufactured as the Drake RR-3.
