ICOM IC-756 Pro II reviews

Just a great rig!!

edcoleup

I first acquired a 756 (non pro) back in 2003. I absolutely loved it! The band scope was new to me, after having various Kenwood's and Yaesu's. It met an unfortunate end at the hands of an individual with anger issues. Who needless to say ate no longer a part of my life. I recently acquired a Pro II from a local ham who was downsizing, at a SUPER price! Barely used at all, and in like new condition. What a joy!!! The features are fantastic, and most importantly, accessible! Everything you need is on the front panel and not hidden in a menu like so many others. Some of the buttons on the front panel have a "press and hold" dual purpose, but not hard to learn at all. The control you have over your transmitted audio is awesome, and the filter bandwidth adjustments really allow you to custom tailor your receive. Just take your time and make SMALL adjustments. A little goes a long way. Even now, they still command a relatively high price, so if you can find a NICE one at a good price, grab it!! And, contrary to popular belief, there IS a fix for the display should it eventually fail, as some have. Probably a good idea to run the brightness and contrasting at 50% or less if you don't have an issue with your eyesight. IMHO, running ANYTHING flat out all the time, is just not a good idea....ever. The SM-20 microphone is a perfect match for a desk mic, they just seem to be over priced. I'm not a huge Heil fan, but I'm sure some of his mics such as the popular ICM would be a fine match as well. Otherwise, the stock hand mic works extremely well with some careful adjustment. If you see one for 5 to 6 hundred bucks, grab it, and hit the ground running. You won't regret it.

Great Rig for the money!

N7RD

After owning this rig for 6 months now I have found it to be very much my favorite. I work 99% CW so most of my thoughts are for this mode.
The filtering is outstanding and very easy to set up and use. Chasing DX is a big part of my operating and the split work with the dual watch has become one of my most favorite of this rig. I do utilize the scope function quite often, this is one reason I purchased this rig. One thing we all know if we can't hear them we can't work them. The receiver is wonderful, or at least better than anything I have had next to my Ten Tec Omni 6plus. All is all this is a great buy for the money. I am one happy customer.
