Got for free a broken unit in 2021
After replacing some components n HF filter work like a charm
I have owned this receiver since December 1996. I paid 390.00 for it and have never been disappointed that I purchased it. I received it in mint, (Read, New Condition).
The 4x IF conversion lets this radio hear everything, along with a low noise figure. Front panel is cast aluminum, switches have never gone bad and the REAL Analogue meter along with the nice blue-green(dimmable)vacuum flourescent display shows this radio is a true top shelf item, even so many years after it's original introduction.
This radio is so good, the US Govt. used it as one of their receivers for monitoring.
I still have the R70 and do not plan to ever sell it. This was one of the most sensitive user friendly and quality constructed gear to come along in the consumer market. The current pricing is still at or around 400.00 US.
I do hear, however, that the first models had some problems. Mine was in the last stages of production,1993,so, obviously, whatever was amiss was corrected by the production date of the unit I purchased.
If you can still find one in good condition and you trust the seller, I would not hesitate to have this as one of my main receivers in the station.
Ever means ... 1985 - 2011.
Bought in 2011 for 300 bucks. Running like new ... amazing. Look and style are personal, but i like the mil-look. Even the frontpanel is made of solid steel, never seen @ other brands.
I keep this one 4 ever!!
