I have had mine for over 10 years and still love it. I moved to ZL from G-land and it is superb at bothe breaking a pile up(in G) to digging out stations from a pile up (as a ZL). I have the inrad roofing filter and and all the filter slots a re filled. It works as well now as when I bought it. I have looked at changing it for one of the newer Yaesu's but I love the second reciever and anything with that facility is out of my price range. For me to change this radio, will take something very special, and I'm not sure I would not regret it.
The mother of all radios. The FT-1000MP series is the best radio Yaesu has ever produced. Looks, sound and performance. I don't need to go on about this radio. You will ever see less than a 5.0 on any review. I am very lucky to own one.
I bought one of the last few of these, new, when the FT-2000 came out. Glad I did. This radio, with some INRAD filters is better then the FT-2000. I primarily chase DX on CW and while not the equal of the newer Elecraft, Ten-Tec, or Flexradio, is does very well and I have got through a lot of brutal pileups with it. You can't work them if you can't hear them.
I purchased my 1000MP Mark V Field in April of 2011 from a friend who bought it new. He was upgrading to a FT-2000 and offered the Mark V to me for $800.00. I couldn't refuse!!!! It's like "brand new". Not a scratch, blemish or ding anywhere and works as new. I've made some awesome contacts with the rig and everyone I talk to says the transmit audio is perfect and clear. They all say "don't change anything" with the audio. It has more "whistles and bells" than I Know what to do with. I'm reading the manual everyday and still I find things this rig will do. The receiver is excellent. Has tons of filters and ways to eliminate noise and bring out the station you're istening to. It's a GREAT rig. Love it.
Plus, you can power it from 13.8 Vdc or 120 volts AC. If you can find a nice one, buy it. By the way, it is a large radio, so you'll need plenty of space where ever you choose to use it. Thanks, Hal K. W5HAL
