In my 50+ years of ham radio experience, this rig is the best. The experience gets better and better as I learn to use the rig. The stereo split ability for dxing is really great. On cw I can narrow the DSP filter to 100Hz with minimal impact on the fidelity of the signal. The DSP noise reduction really works well. The rig the FTdx5000 replaced, IC-7600, isn't even close in performance. For comparison, here is a list of "modern" rigs I have owned and used regularly: ICOM IC-7600, IC-756 Pro, Icom-765, TenTec Omni V!+, TS-830S. Nearly everything that needs a knob, has a knob for easy access without cycling through a menu system. But when needed, the menu system is easy to use and Instruction Manual is clear and easy to follow. With 200 W output, my amplifier is gathering dust.
A couple nit picks: 1.No clock, 2.MS-5000 scope not very useful (really inadequate after using Icom band scopes). 3.Narrower SSB roofing filter (maybe 2.4 KHz) would be better. 4.The engagement of split mode and return to normal function is much more complex than necessary. In this respect, my Icom rigs were far superior.
No rig is perfect, and we all have our personal preferences, but in my experience, this is the best transceiver, even with the nits above.
