The W in the model name refers to the white cabinet color. A maroon version was reportedly also produced, designated the Hallicrafters S-41G (gray). Both models are electrically and mechanically identical to the EC-1A/B with the main differences being color and knob style. These models where produced in 1945/6, just prior to the introduction of the S38.
