The FTdx400 was one of the flagship models of YAESU MUSEN Co., that was designed to provide the best performance for variety of user demands by means of tube that was the most stable electronic device at that era. In terms of SSB transceiver that consisted of tubes, FTdx400 was similar to the Heathkit SB-401 and Collins KWM-1/KWM-2 in general.
It was introduced to the market in Oct. 1967 with a catalog price of 118,000 Japanese Yen.
