Great Radio

Anytone AT-5888UV, Mobile dual-band VHF/UHF transceiver

I love this radio, they can be found used real reasonable. They work great, but I would suggest getting the RT Systems programing software, as it runs circles around the stock software. also you need a well tuned antenna, as the high SWR circuit functions well, if the SWR is high it will shut down the TX in a hurry. over all it is a great radio, I run one in my Subaru, and one in my semi truck

Cheaper version of the TM-271A

Kenwood TM-281A, Mobile VHF Transceiver

The Good: Weather alert, upgrade from a output transistor to a power module.

The Bad: No weather/water proofing

The ugly: along with the lack of weather/ water proofing is the lack of the metal top on the chassis leaving the guts of the radio completely
void of shielding.

As I have just gotten this radio, I have yet to use it in a real radio environment. I will be installing it in my Jeep this week with other radios, 10 meter and commercial VHF, hope I don't have problems. I'll keep you all posted.

Excellent Radio

Kenwood TM-271A, Mobile VHF Transceiver

Easy to program, even without computer software. Rugged, water resistant (Orings on knobs, rubber seals on case cover, and plugs for the speaker jack). the radio preforms well in both FMW, and FMN modes. This radio also does FM narrow.
