The ICOM IC-502 is a bookshelf portable. The size allows one to carry it around, but most 502's will probably spend most of their time standing in a bookshelf. The IC-502 had very coarse tuning and required a very steady hand to operate and it suffered from frequency drift. Both problems were solved in the ICOM IC-502A in 1980.

This rig is part of a range of models:

The ICOM IC-502 - 6 Meter SSB
The ICOM IC-202 - 2 Meter SSB
The ICOM IC-212 - 2 Meter FM (European Model)
The ICOM IC-215E - 2 Meter FM
The ICOM IC-302 - 70 cm SSB (European Model)
The ICOM IC-402 - 70 cm SSB
